The Children Need Us
For 60+ years, the Sioux Falls Morning Optimist Club has been helping youth in the Sioux Falls area. The service club was established in the late 1950's with the goal to inspire, benefit, and contribute to the young children of the Sioux Empire. Members are well minded individuals that donate time and resources to help develop a strong younger generation in today's community. The club hosts events geared towards teaching skills, values, and participation in a variety of means. Events include Kids Fishing Derby, Oratorical Contest, MO's Courageous Kids Carnival, Children's Christmas shopping at The Banquet, Camp Bring It On, and many others. Details of these events can be found at sfmoc.org.
Another way the club interacts with the community is through financial donations. The club has been a large sponser of Camp Bring It On for a number of years. Camp Bring It On is South Dakota's only summer camp specifically for children with cancer. In conjunction with Sanford Children's Hospital, Camp Bring It On has become a sanctuary for children going through tremendous obstacles to connect with one another. The week long camp is held at Joy Ranch in Watertown and will be taking place this summer June 12th-17th. For more information on Camp Bring It On go to Sanford Health. Other benefactors of the club's financial donations include Embe, Childrens Home Society, New Hope, Feeding South Dakota, DAPA, Boys & Girls Club, and countless others. Organizations requesting financial donations fill out request forms found on the club's website and all requests are reviewed by a Donations Committee.
The real intent of the Optimist Club is best described by the mission statement and the Optimist Creed. These powerful words truely express how club members strive to help where needed.
By providing hope and positive vision, Optimist bring out the best in youth, our community and ourselves.
The Optimist Creed
To be so strong, nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful contenance at all times and greet every living creature you meet with a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
The Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club meets every Thursday morning at 7:15 AM at the VFW (I-229 & Minnesota Ave.). Morning meetings include breakfast, fellowship, and a guest speaker. The club always welcomes visitors and of course, new members. For more information call Amy at 605-999-6459 or visit the club homepage HERE. Hope to see you there!
